Libertarian senate candidate arrested after hour-long square off with police

On Monday, October 26, Jonathan D. Miller, a 46-year-old Libertarian candidate for the North Carolina Senate, was arrested after an hours-long standoff with SWAT teams near Cary’s Lochmere neighborhood.

The incident unfolded after Miller posted dozens of messages online threatening self-harm. He briefly spoke with the police before fleeing off with a revolver in hand.

When Cary police attempted to make contact, it escalated into a multi-hour standoff behind his apartment complex, prompting a nearby private school to go into a code yellow lock-down.

Miller surrendered to the police around 3:00 PM. According to the police, no one was harmed or injured from the event.

Miller’s X account made a post just before 9:40 am saying. “The whole police department is chasing me with guns. This should be fun.” followed later with a post saying,”I’ve got 6 shots and the high ground. I hope they don’t find me, but if they do it’s gonna be a hell of a show.”

“I didn’t know about this candidate when I first heard this story, but I was shocked that this even happened in the first place,” commented junior Gerald Hodge

Miller was booked on four charges: communicating threats, resisting officers, going armed to the terror of people, and possession of a firearm by a felon

During his first court appearance on Tuesday, October 27, Miller’s felony firearm charge was dismissed after confirming the weapon he held during the standoff was an antique.

‘When I heard that the gun was an antique, I laughed a little,” junior Gabe Reiskind also commented.

Miller obviously lost in the race with the recent backlash, and his court case information is unavailable.
