Turn It Up! RCHS students share what music is trending for them.

Music is an important part of any high schooler’s life. You hear it in the car driving to school, singing with your friends, or just throwing on some headphones and pressing play on your favorite playlist. These RCHS students share what music is making them turn it up!

The average American high school student listens to about 18 to 27 hours of music a week. Sophomore Teesha Patel instead goes above and beyond with her average and listens to music for around 41 hours a week.

“It helps me focus on schoolwork,” she claims. “It makes studying and homework easier for me.”

Some students, like sophomore Samyutha Komali, enjoy high energy pop beats. “I really love listening to Tate McRae,” she comments. “Her voice is really pretty and I enjoy the structure of her songs.”

Maeve Carlson, on the other hand, prefers to listen to rap music. “The best part for me is the tempo.” Maeve says. “I can really get into it.” She also mentions that her playlist is “a little bit of everything and I can pretty much listen to it all.”

Junior Adelynn Holtz prefers her music a little more niche. “My favorite music artist is Conan Gray and my favorite genre of music is Indie Rock. I enjoy the way the vibe feels.”

Listening to music is an enjoyable hobby, pastime, or just a part of life for many Raleigh Charter High School students. Whether it’s during study hall, lunch, or carpool you can be sure to find someone who is wearing their headphones and listening to their preferred musical artists.
