Arguably one of the most exciting and intense sports competitions all year-the NCAA March Madness Tournament has finally concluded with a victory for the Michigan Wolverines! This basketball tournament brought tons of excitement and anticipation through Raleigh Charter’s student body.
One of the biggest reasons students love March Madness is the opportunity to fill out brackets. Many students and even teachers create their own predictions, ultimately deciding which colleges will participate in the Final Four.
Throughout the tournament, it’s common to hear students talking about the games in the hallways, at lunch, and especially the morning after a big game.
March Madness gives students a way to bond with either friendly banter, or recapping amazing plays. Even people who don’t usually watch basketball get involved because of the excitement and energy surrounding the tournament.
Lewah Thomas, a freshman at RCHS shares his opinion on this year’s March Madness:
Q: “Do you think the teams with the most skilled players always win? Why or why not?”
A:”No, I don’t think so. While it’s extremely important to have skilled players to score the most points, it’s more important to have connections between the teammates and coaches. Without a built connection, it’s usually just one man playing for himself.”
Caleb Howard, a freshman at RCHS reveals his bracket winner:
Q: “Which team did you root for and why?”
A:”I rooted for Duke, always. They were so close to winning last year, I think they can do it this year. If they don’t end up making it to the Final Four or Elite 8, I hope Michigan wins.”
These basketball games just keep getting more and more competitive and suspenseful to see what college will come out on top.
