DLA or Outside: RCHS Daily Lunch Rush

Everyday, as soon as 4th period ends students always wonder, “Where are we eating today?” At Raleigh Charter High School, every afternoon the campus splits into two parts, the indoor people occupying DLAs, and the outdoor crowd posting up around the front building and the triangle.

Most students prefer eating inside in DLAs where it’s warm and out of the weather. But because DLAs are reserved for clubs most of the time or they fill up fast, lots of students head outside to the front building or the triangle, only to realize finding a table out here is even more impossible.

“I like eating inside because it’s warm. Most of the time, the room fills up pretty fast or it’s reserved for a club, but there’s plenty of DLAs in the building,” said junior Natalie Kurtz

With fewer tables available outside, students end up having to sprint after 4th period immediately for a table or anywhere to sit. Junior Fatima Masoud commented, “I actually prefer sitting outside because of the fresh air, but finding a table out here is almost impossible every day.”

When the weather gets worse, either from the cold or rain, the outdoor side is completely off limits, and every classroom suddenly transforms into a DLA to give everyone a roof over their head. However, because the students who usually tough it out on the outdoor are forced inside, the competition for finding a DLA that fits everyone in your friend group is even more intense.
