College basketball officially tipped off Monday, Nov 2! UNC Men’s Basketball introduced new head coach Michael Malone yesterday against Western Carolina.
The Tar Heels also just dominated news cycles by matching a jaw-dropping $6 million NIL package (backed heavily by Jordan Brand) to flip five-star recruit DeMarcus Henry away from Kentucky. Even though he didn’t play, he will be someone to look forward to later in the season from UNC.
We know that the three-point shooting will be a focus and the Tar Heels will need to be good in that area to succeed and that is one of the reasons why Matt Able was on fire yesterday..
I caught up with some students that watched the game and his outstanding performance.
Freshman Arjun Malayappan said, “I watched the game and I was happy that the team won, but yesterday was just the Matt Able show.”
Another freshman was Jayha Kim who said, “The game was alright, but at least we won thanks to Matt. One thing I am excited about is whether Duke will beat UNC later in the season because UNC won last time, but Duke destroyed their competition last night unlike UNC.”
This game showed that UNC fans might have a team that can go far in the season and could put up a fight against the big teams.
