Thursday September 10 marks the second win for the Raleigh Charter Girls Volleyball Team. This game was thrilling and full of intensity, which got the crowd to the edge of their seats, as both teams were playing their hardest and battling for each set.
They came out with great energy and teamwork, winning both the first and second sets to take an early lead. The Neuse Charter Cougars fought back and managed to win the third set, but our players did not get discouraged.
Junior Sameera Nair said, “I think that we did really good, but I think sometimes we got in our heads. But the good trumps it because we always came back after we were low, but then we came back.”
The score was at 2-1; our team knew they could not let the Cougars win another set because that would tie up the game. They also knew that winning the next set would win them the game, so they responded by refocusing and persevering. Their hard work paid off because they ended up winning the fourth set and the game.
As the game continued, the team began to communicate better. Sophomore Mia Shiraiwa said, “Today was so good. I think everyone actually brought their best. Everyone was just on their A-game. Everyone was also cheering each other on whether they did something good or made a mistake. The community aspect of our team was amazing.”
With great determination and teamwork, our Raleigh Charter Phoenixes were able to secure the overall victory.
As of now, their record is 2-7, but there are many more games to come. The volleyball team still has 7 games left of the season and Thursday, September 24 is their Senior Night. It will be at Triangle Volleyball Club located in Morrisville from 6:00-8:00pm. Come out to support our volleyball team and give the seniors their final cheers!
