As October approaches, student councils across the country are facing their annual task: picking a homecoming theme that doesn’t immediately get labeled as “lame” or “boring” in student group chats.
As expected, students are very much looking forward to it and debates about the theme are often heard in halls. Junior Mia Rose Faulkner shares her opinions about last year’s homecoming and its theme.
“Last year was so fun! I loved that I got to hang out with my friends and meet new people, eat food and overall it was just a fun night out. Last year’s theme was ‘Over the Moon.’ I thought it was a very nice theme, but I do wish it was more detailed because I didn’t exactly know what to wear.”
When interviewed about what this year’s theme she would like to see, Mia said “I think it would have to be something related to heat or sunlight because it’s been so hot lately. Also it would be a nice contrast to last year’s ‘Over the Moon’ theme. So, light and dark themes.”
When asked about themes, sophomore Evan Leino said “I think the theme of this year should be starry night because it’s nice and is easy to dress for.”
Right now, the student council is keeping this year’s theme a total secret. Nobody knows what will be chosen, but some are hoping for a modern, party atmosphere while others prefer romantic classical styles.
The secrecy adds a lot of excitement and keeps students around campus guessing, but it also puts a lot of pressure on the student council.
In order to meet everyone’s expectations and for homecoming to be successful, they have to take a lot into consideration. A good theme also gives friend groups opportunities to build their perfect homecoming day, including dinner plans, photo spots and more.
Until the student council drops the final announcement, everyone is going to keep guessing in the halls. But, regardless of what ends up being the theme, everyone at RCHS is clearly ready for a great night out with friends.
