2026 Impact Project

As we entered into the second semester of the 2025-2026 school year, the freshmen class dived into their big project of the semester: The Impact Project.

The Impact Project has students researching the impact of a crop that was traded during the Columbian Exchange and presenting the research to their class.

The crops that students are researching the impact of are nutmeg, chocolate, tea, cotton, potatoes, rubber, and opium.

Mrs. Radwan, a World History teacher, shared why we have the Impact Project. She said, “The impact project is all about finding out where a certain crop originated and figuring out how something so ordinary could change the world, then taking that information and being able to teach others about how something so normal could change the world.”

Colin Scarlett, a freshman, shared his opinion on being a student viewer of these presentations in class. Scarlett said, “The presentations were wonderful and very informative. It was cool to see a unique perspective since the information was coming from students, and I enjoyed a little break from everyday class.”

Freshman Zoleiah Dunn was very excited about being able to present the Impact Project to her peers. “The impact project was a great experience that allowed me to work with my classmates on a topic that was not well known,” she said.“I also really enjoyed being able to teach others about how one little product can have such a big impact.”

Whether it was listening to the presentation or actually presenting, the Impact Project was able to engage students.
