Are you looking to join the Raleigh Charter swim team? The swim season is just around the corner, and now is the perfect time to sign up. Tryouts will be held by Coach Cole starting in early November, so if you are interested, then you are more than welcome to stop by.
Last year, the swim team brought home the girls’ eighth North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) title thanks to our star swimmers like Reina Liu, Alice Arcaro, and Lucy Ann Hefner. The Raleigh Charter swim team is incredibly successful, having won five of the last six championships as a school. This includes three consecutive boys’ championships as well as back-to-back girls’ championships.
Sophomore Alice Arcaro spoke about her first year on the swim team, saying, “Last year I learned how to tarp the pool and the team customs which was exciting! I’m looking forward to getting out of school early, representing Raleigh Charter, and seeing all of my friends at the meets and practices.” The 10th grader is heading into her second season with the team after a very successful first year. She won the 100 free and 100 fly, both of her individual events.
Raleigh Charter also won the boys’ championship with swimmers like Calvin Chen, Eddy Ma, and Roger Zhang helping them clinch the win.
“I enjoyed the banquet at the end of the year! The paper plate awards and food were the best part. I’m excited for another year with the team and getting to enjoy swimming with my teammates again,” Said Calvin Chen, a sophomore who is joining the team for a second year in a row.
If you enjoy swimming, camaraderie, and representing your school, then consider trying out for the swim team next month and email Coach Cole to learn more about the swim team. Hope to see you there, and go Phoenix!
