As I think we’ve all noticed, movie attendance is declining. You probably go to the movies less yourself. So what happened?

I believe that movie attendance has declined post-COVID due to less awareness of what movies are available. During COVID, people were rarely going to theaters. I think that this got people out of the habit of seeing what is in theaters.

Let’s explore some of what is new and coming out:

For fans of horror, many big movies have been released, or are going to be released very soon.

In “Insidious: Out of the Further,” a young woman named Gemma discovers that she can travel to a realm of lost souls called the Further. This movie was released on August 21 and was directed by Jacob Chase. It stars Amelia Eve as Gemma, the protagonist. It was rated PG-13 and received a 6.2 on IMDb.

“Resident Evil” has just recently come out and was highly anticipated. In this movie, a medical courier named Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, must make a delivery to Raccoon City General Hospital. The movie is based on the video games; however, it does not follow the games. I have a friend who recently went to watch the movie and said it was quite good. It was rated R and received a very high 7.7 on IMDb.

“Primetime” follows the story of the famous child-predator catcher Chris Hansen and his television show, “To Catch a Predator.” It was more directly based on the 2007 Esquire article titled “Tonight on Dateline, This Man Will Die” and was theatrically released in the US on September 25. The movie was rated R and scored a 7.2 on IMDb.

Now, for Marvel fans, there is huge news. A new “Avengers” movie is finally coming out.

“Avengers: Doomsday” releases on December 18. It has a runtime of 2 hours 45 minutes. It was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and follows a collision of universes in which the Avengers must team up to take on Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. It is not yet rated as it has not been released, but will likely be PG-13, following the rest of the “Avengers” movies.

Another action movie releasing soon is “Street Fighter.” Releasing October 16 in the U.S, it follows Ryu and Ken Masters as they return to the world of fighting after being recruited into a tournament by Chun-Li. It stars Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, and Andrew Koji as Ryu. It is rated PG-13 and is not yet rated on IMDb.

On a lighter note, a new movie about the Fockers is coming out. Robert De Niro, Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, and Ariana Grande star in the new “Focker-in-Law.” In the movie, the son of Greg and Pam Focker, Henry Focker, marries a strong-willed woman who does not seem to be his match at all. The movie will be released on November 25 and is rated PG-13.

I asked Lucy Averitte, a senior at Raleigh Charter, what movie she was most excited about going to see. She said, “I’m most excited to see ‘Primetime.’” She said that the thing that drew her in the most was that “Robert Pattinson is great at dialects. His impression of Chris Hansen is so good it’s scary.”
