On September 12, Texas Longhorns came back with a 24-23 win against the Ohio State University Buckeyes. Ohio State came into Austin as favorites, with Vegas odds in their favor. The Longhorns struggled early, falling behind 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Things did not get much better in the second quarter, but Texas came alive in the fourth quarter.
NC State transfer Hollywood Smothers scored two rushing touchdowns in the final quarter to help Texas complete the comeback.
“Yeah, I thought Ohio State had it in the bag. I turned the game off in the 3rd quarter,” Junior Drew Martin said.
With just 25 seconds left, Smothers leaped over a pile of players into the end zone to cap off this historic win.
Along with Smothers’ big performances, Heisman favorite quarterback Arch Manning completed 16 of his 23 passes, for 153 yards and a touchdown. He outshined everyone in the fourth quarter with 8 of 11 completed passes, throwing for 81 yards.
Though Ohio State lost, the wide receiver Jerimiah Smith had a field day, recording 8 catches for 161 yards and a touchdown.
After the win, the AP Poll moved Texas to No. 1 in the country, with Ohio State dropping to No. 6, just ahead of LSU.
Coming off a big win, Texas heads to Knoxville this Saturday to take on the No.14 Tennesee Volunteers, with the Longhorns entering the game as the favorites.
