The Raleigh Charter Women’s Tennis Team clinched their first win against Roxboro last Tuesday and their fourth win overall, bringing their record to 4-2 in the current season. The team has worked hard preparing for each and every match, putting their all into each game. Determination is not a new concept to the women’s tennis team; every single player works hard.
Even though this was their fourth win of the season, the Phoenixes have definitely faced some hardships. Team morale took a hit after a difficult loss against NCSSM the week before. The girls rallied together and came back stronger, defeating Roxboro 8-1. Unfortunately, Raleigh Charter faced a difficult loss against Franklin Academy Thursday, losing 8-1.
“There are some teams that are ahead of us, but one thing we can improve on is our attitude,” said Coach Cole Meyers, who’s been with the team now for two years. After some difficult losses or rough practices, Coach Cole reminds his players that not every match is going to be easy. Sometimes they will struggle, but they will learn from their mistakes and improve.
“Our tennis team does a great job balancing hard work with having fun, which makes it a place where everyone can challenge themselves while still feeling comfortable. My favorite memory from the team is probably when we went to the beach for one of our playoff matches last year near the end of the season!” said senior Akanksha Siram, who is competing in her final year with the team. The goodbye to the team will definitely be bittersweet for the seniors and for those they will be leaving behind. But there is still lots of time to make memories at matches and enjoy the camaraderie of the team before the season comes to an end.
The team is competing against RTHS in Durham this Thursday and another match against TMSA at home this Friday. Every player has been working hard in preparation for the two upcoming matches and will hopefully bring home two more wins for Raleigh Charter.
