On May 1st, the senior class at Raleigh Charter High School gathered in the triangle for a tradition that feels both simple and unforgettable. College Decision Day is a half day, but it carries a lot more weight than the schedule suggests. Seniors show up wearing shirts that represent where they are going next, and for a couple of hours, the future feels real in a way it never has before.
From the outside, it might just look like a bunch of students taking pictures and hanging out. But as a senior, it feels like something bigger. It is the moment where all the stress of applications, deadlines, and decisions finally settles. There is excitement in finally knowing what comes next, but there is also a quiet sense of uncertainty. After years of being in the same place with the same people, everyone is about to go in completely different directions.
Standing in the triangle, you start to notice how different everyone’s paths are. Some people are heading to large universities, others to smaller colleges, and some are choosing paths that do not follow the traditional college route. Even with all those differences, everyone is sharing the same moment. It feels like one of the last times the entire class is in one place, celebrating something together.
Senior Xavier Sneed described the day as a mix of emotions. “It felt really good to finally commit and just be done with the whole process,” he said. “But it was also kind of crazy seeing everyone else’s shirts and realizing we are all going to different places.” His experience reflects what a lot of seniors feel. There is relief in finishing the process but also a realization that things are about to change.
Senior Pranitha Chalamalasetti reflected on the sense of community that the event creates. “It is one of the few times where everyone comes together and supports each other, no matter what their plans are,” she said. “You can really see how much people have grown and how different everyone’s journeys have been.”
The tradition of wearing college shirts might seem small, but it turns the triangle into a space full of stories. Every shirt represents years of work, decisions, and hopes for the future. Group photos with friends capture another reality, that even though people are going their separate ways, the connections they built at Raleigh Charter will still matter.
College Decision Day is not just about where seniors are going. It is about recognizing how far they have come. It marks the transition from high school to whatever comes next whether that is college, a gap year, or something else entirely. For the class of this year, the triangle was not just a place to take pictures. It was a place to pause, reflect, and take in a moment that will not come again.
