What Happened at the 9th Grade Flex Days!

For the last two weeks, students at Raleigh Charter High School had the opportunity to experience flex days on Fridays! However, let’s take a closer look at what our 9th graders did.

First, students took a deep dive into Pop Arts culture through a program called “Identity Through Art”. 9th graders got to do fun drama activities like warming up their vocal cords with Ms. Fatool. They got to discuss with their peers about their music interests and favorite arts. They also got to discover and draw their very own graffiti tag with Mr. Thelen.

Next, 9th graders got to engage and discuss a documentary called “The Social Dilemma”about how social media isn’t always how it seems. Although a little intimidating, they had helpful insight and advice to keep themselves and their family and friends safe. Students also got to make creative posters spreading awareness of the media.

Third, 9th graders took a field trip to various places of worship around town. Students got to either go to an Islamic-mosque, Buddhist temple, Jewish synagogue, or Christian Church! Each place of worship was beautifully decorated and students got to learn about the diverse systems of belief and practice.

Finally, the last activities differed for each student according to what language class they took. French 1 students got to make crepes with Mr. Sauzet, while Spanish 1 participated in a cultural dance and got to make pupusas with Mr. Slattery and Ms. Stenzel.

Overall, 9th graders had a blast at flex day and can’t wait for what is in store next year!
