On Friday, February 20, Open Mic Night was held in the drama room with many talents! Students shared their energy and excitement for our school’s annual talent show.
From singing and acting to stand up comedy, this evening showed a night filled with creativity, courage, and natural talents!
For example, after each act, a series of skits were performed by our hosts. This included poetry and comedy by the head of the committee of SGA.
Each student brought something unique, showing the variety of talents that are hidden in our student body.
Raleigh Charter’s Open Mic Night isn’t just a talent show, it demonstrates the sense of community we have and gives students the opportunity to take a chance.
This night proves that school isn’t just about grades – it’s about finding new ways to explore, find new things about yourself, make new friends, and experiment what makes you unique!
Even if you don’t perform, watching the talent show is more than enough to have fun.
Olina Ouyang, who was a part of the audience of this night, shares her thoughts on Open Mic Night.
Q: “What was your favorite part of the night, and why did it stand out to you?”
A: My favorite performance was a guy who played the triangle. It was super creative and the track he played in the back was catchy.” said Olina.
Rhea Victorien, a performer that sang Riptides shares her experience performing.
Q: “What inspired you to choose the song Riptides, and how did it feel performing in front of your classmates and teachers?”
A: “Well, my performance was kind of a spur of the moment, but I’ve always had a close connection to the song growing up, and it was a song my partner, Flora, knew how to play on the guitar. When I was in second grade, I had just finished the Percy Jackson series and found the song. It reminded me of the books so I really loved it. It was a little nerve wracking performing for my classmates and teachers, because a majority of them hadn’t heard me sing before this, but I knew I should do it anyway because as a member of SGA, I couldn’t let an SGA event go not according to plan(some people couldn’t make it). It was a nice experience and I’d so do it again.” Rhea said.
