Raleigh Charter High School Women’s Varsity Soccer defeats Research Triangle High School 6-1

Raleigh Charter’s Women’s Varsity Soccer Team defeated Research Triangle High School on March 11.These women not only put in their personal best effort, but also worked as a team. Working together as a team is a game-changer (no pun intended), because these women know that they can count on each other to be there when they kick the ball, and to support them even when they make a mistake.

This game brought a little more phoenix fire to these women’s spirits after losing to Franklin earlier that week. Freshman Bennett Flynn says, “My favorite part of the game was the second half when we continued to play the ball around the other team even more consistently and made some really great plays and runs down the sideline.” She knew that when a defender kicked the ball to her, she would be able to get it and play it down the sideline. Once the team got this rhythm, the goals they scored kept rising higher and higher as a reflection of their support and effort on the field.

Putting in 110 percent effort when you are on the field is very important, but so is all the time and effort you put in at practice, before the game, and even at home developing your skills. The more players who commit to showing up on time to practice every day, the stronger the team bond will be when it comes to game time.

Players rushing towards one another, hugging, clapping, jumping up and down. These are the actions of a well bonded team, who played a ball through to the end, supported each other along the sideline, and can now be proud of their actions to celebrate. In these images above, you can see the bond that the RCHS women have with one another, and their support for each other. The person scoring does not get all the credit, and they make sure to show the other players their gratitude for that ball that was passed clearly to them, or when that teammate blocked a defender so they could score.

It takes a team to score, not just one player. Freshman Samyutha Komali says, “My favorite part of the game was when the team dominated from beginning to end and didn’t give up.” Scoring is not simply about placing a ball inside a net, it is about the technique behind the shot taken by a player who has a special talent for being at the top of the field. It takes a goalie and defenders to take the ball away from the other team and send it up the field so that the strikers can score.

Let’s go, PHOENIX, for an awesome victory and great teamwork!!
